Les Glacières form an amphitheatre-shaped mountain massif between the village of "Chámuny" and the Great St. Bernard hospice in this detail from G.T. Borgonio Carta Generale de Stati di Sua Altezza Reale, 1680. A dotted line marks the boundary between the Valais in Switzerland, and the provinces of Faucigny (similar to Haute-Savoie) and the Val d'Aosta, both provinces of the kingdom of Vittorio Amedeo II, who reigned from Turin.
