Image 237 of Theo Brown Diaries, 1931
Public DepositedMonday, August 3, 1931 Cloudy/Rain This morning we walked up to the point where we has a wonderful view of Percé rock in habited with gulls cormorants thousands of them. Near the point was a small cottage brought up from the beach & owned by Col Bieks of the jewelry Co in Montreal. This point is really a gem with it's high cliffs & salt air & cool Codfish is on every bill of fare. We drove 160 miles to Crosses point taking the ferry to Cambellton N.B. Along the way we saw boats in building mostly small ones, and innumerable small fishing fleets. The carts are all two wheeled. At one place we saw an ox pulling a hay rack on runners. It is all unspoiled. Many horses, friendly people. Nothing for sale by the roadside and no signs. Many long covered bridges. The ocean on one side and the mountains just behind with pine trees everywhere. Wild raspberries just coming. Buttercups just in bloom, also daiseys etc. The finest sceenery ever on this peninsular. Spent the night at the ChateauRestigouche fair only. [Photograph: Petite Madeleine]
