WEDNESDAY FEBRUARY 5 1947 Our Patent Department think that claims 5 - 6 - 7 - 8 - 14 - 15 - 16 of Patent 2378615 cover the new type of tractor shown in sketch of January 6 '47 This patent dated JUNE 19 1945 5. In a tractor, alongitudinally disposed frame, and operator's station of the foreward end of said frame, an engine mounted behind said operator's station near the rear end of said frame, a unitary transmission housing attached to said engine and extending rearwardly there- from, said housing having partitions dividing the same into three compartments, clutch mechanism in the forward compartment adjacent said engine, a drive shaft extending from said clutch mechanism rearwardly into the second compartment, change speed gears disposed on said shaft in said second compartment, differential gear mechanism in the rear compartment, a shaft connecting said gears tih said differential mechanism, a pair of laterally extending axle housings rigidly bolted to opposite side of said unitary trans- mission housing adjacent the rear end thereof, drive axles disposed within said axle housings and connect- ed with said differential mechanisn, and a pair or rear traction wheels mounted on the outer ends of said axle housings and connected with said axles to be driven thereby. 6. In a tractor, a longitudinally disposed frame, a longitud- inally disposed engine mounted adjacent the rear end thereof, a transmission housing, and having a main clutch at it's rear end, a transmission housing fixed to the rear end of said engine and having a front portion enclosing said cluth and a top wall recessed downwardly and rearwardly fron said front portion, a radiator for cooling said engine mounted be- hink the latter above said recessed portion of said trans- mission housing, and operator's seat mounted over the forward end of said engine and a fuel tant mounted over said engine between said radiator and said seat.
