TUESDAY JANUARY 28 1947 Quarterly Directors Meeting today. The meeting was optomistic, the schedule for 1947 calls for 500,000 tons of finished goods while 349,000 was produced in 1946 Charley Wiman is to go to the Argintine and Brazil on a 3 months trip starting almost at once. $62,6000 was appropriated for the new experimental farm, which I am now turning over to the Product Research Department. In a comparison of earnings of IH. Deere & Caterpillar it looks for '46 that on invested capital Deere is the best money maker. Also it appears that on competing hires Deere is doing 80% of IH volume. I showed Charley Wiman the new low down model of 101 tractor with integral. We ran the outfit in rear yard and Charley was so pleased he got all the sales managers out to see and operate the outfit. I also showed Charley the small model of tractor (see Jan 6) which interested him tremendously.
