50 last night MONDAY DECEMBER 30 1946 Went to Chicago by Deere & Co plane with morning with Budge Cook. We went to the National Safety Council offices where Wayne Worthington and Marvin Schmidt met up. Maynard Coe Arranged a meeting of his department together with some of the key men of the Safety Council including Williams & [Roark?]- We brought up the film taken of the tests of the Dooley Safety device. We wanted to get the opinion of the Safety Council about their ideas on legislation for safety. Dooley is trying to fanagle the state legislatures to pass a law to make his safety device compulsory. Dooley is only interested in getting money for his patent. Mr Williams said he was susre no law would be passed to make any safety device manditory. Coe said they had means of finding out whether any progress is being made by Dooley on the legislature. He is going to help us in every way he can for he knows safety cant be bought by legislation. Roark said we should try to accomplish the results claimed by Dooley in a really practical way. I showed the non removable power schaft shield and all though it should beadopted soon and the Council said they would be glad to publisize it. Budge Cook & Marvin Schmidt were pleased with the meeting. Cook thinks we should show the movie to [C..sentch?] State senator & representatives [?] Smith & Clinton Searles. We flew back to Moline at 440
