FRIDAY 45 February 14 Cloudy/Rain We went up to San Benito this morning to the Rio Grande Hardware Co and found they had 6 breakages on chain housings and quills In 2 cases this happened when discing with draw bar in 1 case with draw bar on and pulling 2 disc plow. 3 cases where Deere & Mansur planter was used. The quills broke [Sketch: ?] and chain bearings [Sketch; ?] here. It looks serious. The new tractors have reinforced parts but there will be trouble with the old ones. I called McCormick on phone at Waterloo and asked him to 1. Make test with draw bar in place. 2. " " " brace connecting upper stud bolts. 3. " " " rear pipe & platform for cultivator. 4. " " " rear pipe and brace connecting upper stud bolts. He promises to do this at once. New clutch and axle bearing came in by express for #11 Grub Breaker. We tried this out and found it O.K. Also tried the Cameron Clutch and found that O.K. also. We must do something with this CAmeron Clutch for it is good. PutMaine cultivator & hoe in potatoes this year for first time. It looks good. Wired shop that clutch & axle bearing with new stop pawl are O.K. that Silver will be home Monday that braces are needed on tractor.
