WEDNESDAY Jan. 5, 1949 Kate telephones this evening that mother was failing. She did not think it advisable for us to come now but wanted us to know and prepare us. Kate has not got a nurse but hopes to get one tomorrow. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ A letter from Kate written the 4th says of Mother. "Her mind is still clear, in a way, but she seldom seems to focus it on the present. She does not talk but occasionally says part of a thought out loud and it always seems to be of a pleasant nature, such as thinking about the creche and how much it was enjoyed. She did not feel strong enough to get up yesterday so stayed in bed - today too- tho the district nurse who has just been here says she may feel like getting up again in a day or two. Personally I rather doubt it for she is so very weak -- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Fred Klanns article about my diaries came out in evening Dispatch (see last pages of this book) ~~~~~~~~ Elise and I went to "Holiday on Ice" as guests of Lee & Bill. The skating was superb. My thoughts are on mother.
