THURSDAY JUNE 19 1947 A Directors meeting at Charley Wiman's house this morning. It had been found that the Ankeny Ordinance plant 10 miles north of Des Moines could be bought by Deere & Co for $4,000,000 We had bid $3,150,000 before but that was not enough. There are 400 acres of land and 1600,000 sq. feet of floor space. There are 5 manufacturing buildings. the largest 1053 feet by 483 ft containing 390,955 sq ft of floor space. The second largest is 955'x417' with 326,022 sq ft of floor space Two others are 842'x423' eache with 288,018 sq ft of floow space the other is 649'x417' with 220,765 sq ft of floor space. The North Western R.R. has a [spell?], there are 10.3 miles of railroad tracks 24.6 miles of highways, 17.5 miles of transmission lines, 30 miles of sewre mains, 15 miles of overhead steam districution, and 13.5 miles of under ground water lines in the area. The Directors voted to by the plant, and it was thought wise to announce the fact that Deere & Co had made and offer The plant is to be used to help out the plow works, Dain & Harvester and some day to move the Syracuse plant there. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Elise & I went tot he Davenport Club as guests of the Stones. Mr & Mrs Mumford, John Vander Pyl and the Grovenor Balls there too.
