Elements of comics and instructional design

Public

Elements of comics, such as cartoons, juxtaposed text and images, and visual and textual cues, can promote learning in textbooks. This project investigates instructional design as well as our learning process and analyzes the use of imagery in an introductory college-level computer science textbook. It evaluates the text in terms of its efficacy as an instructional text and shows ways the text could benefit from the use of comic elements to improve upon comprehension, retention, and reader involvement.
