Remote respiration detection of infant apnea

Reliable detection of apnea in premature infants is imperative to ensure homeostasis during anatomical and physiological development. Current apnea detectors are prone to fallibility due to cumbersome sensor arrangements and/or use of measurands not solely indicative of respiration. Consequently, an open path infrared carbon dioxide detector was designed and implemented to determine the presence or absence of premature infant exhalation. The sensitivity and response time of this design allows for its use in apnea detection for premature infants to adults.
