Thermal and optical properties of black nickel coatings

Public

This project involves electroplating Black Nickel onto various substrates, and investigating the thermal and optical properties of the deposited coating. The research findings would be helpful in determining the suitability of Black Nickel for the purpose of passive thermal control onboard spacecraft since information regarding this coating is rare in the literature. Working at NASA/GSFC, many samples were produced at varying thickness and after analysis, Black Nickel was found to have desirable characteristics as a passive thermal control coating.
