The following report, commissioned by CSA Architects and Engineers, investigates reasons some houses in Puerto Rico are vulnerable to hurricane damage. After onsite examination of hurricane-damaged houses and consultation with experts in the field, we have arrived at some recommendations about how to build or retrofit a house to improve its hurricane resistance. We also examine the social and economic conditions of the people living in structurally vulnerable houses. The information herein will be used by CSA in their ongoing efforts to educate citizens on the importance of building stronger, safer houses.
