Selective amplification of cryopreserved human umbilical cord blood stem cellsPublic
Hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) are primitive progenitor cells capable of differentiation into multiple blood-cell lineages. Such cells are often used in cell therapy. Using HSCs derived from human umbilical-cord blood, we studied recovery and viability during cryopreservation and selective amplification processes using FACS analysis and hematological staining techniques. We determined that HSCs survived cryopreservation with high recovery, that CD14+ has a negative effect on stem cell cultures and that HSCs have a unique morphological phenotype not seen in mature cells.
