Preventing injurious torques with a snowblade binding adaptation device

Recent increases in the popularity of snowblading have opened opportunities in the snowblade binding industry to develop new and innovative improvements that could greatly decrease injuries in the sport, namely the high occurrence of lower leg injuries. These injuries are common because the current snowblade binding lacks a release mechanism. The project team has designed, prototyped, and tested a mechanism that can be used in conjunction with conventional binding system of snowblades that allows this release. This design limits the torque that can be passed from ski to the lower legs by using a cam and a follower mechanism with the goal of reducing the high rate of snowblade injuries.
