Transcendentalism and spiritualism -- from cultural exploration to modern healing practices

open in viewerThe nineteenth century cultural movement of Transcendentalism is often marked by the philosophical ideas of spiritual insight, beauty and the Divinity in man and in nature. The writings of three major Transcendentalists - Ralph Waldo Emerson, Henry David Thoreau, and Margaret Fuller, are interspersed with the scientific and anthropological exploration of Orientalism. Spiritualism and the spirituality, two major concepts of the Transcendentalists, anticipate perspectives associated with contemplative, complementary healing of mind, body and soul.
