Artificial genes for antimicrobial peptides

Public

The purpose of this project was to design, construct and express a synthetic gene encoding a selected antimicrobial peptide. Based on the amino acid sequence of the protein, oligonucleotides corresponding to the gene coding region were designed and optimized according to the codon bias of Pichia pastoris, the yeast expression system. An archival plasmid containing the correct coding sequence of the gene was made but the construction of the expression vector and subsequent expression in P. pastoris is ongoing.
