Zoonotic diseases are caused by microorganisms which spread naturally from animals to humans. Zoonotic diseases account for approximately 61% of all human diseases and approximately 75% of emerging diseases are zoonotic-derived. With the current rise in the global human population, zoonotic diseases are becoming increasingly prevalent. Lyme disease is a vector-borne disease prevalent in New England which will be examined to show how human and animal health play a role in the spread of a zoonotic disease.
