Analysis of permeability of hot mix asphalt

Public

The permeability of asphalt pavements and the distress caused by accumulation of water within a pavement is discussed. A mathematical model for determining permeability is presented. A device for measuring permeability in the field was designed and constructed. Five different Superpave mixes were tested in the field. Core samples and hot-mix asphalt samples were collected from each test site. The field and laboratory data provided a means to establish a correlation between the field data and the mathematical model.
