This interactive qualifying project examines the role of bar coding in industry. Some selected symbologies of bar coding such as UPC and Postnet and their applications have been documented. We went to a local Shaw's supermarket and examined how bar coding, specifically the UPC system, simplified the tracking of incoming and outgoing products. We also examined the role of the Postnet bar code and other symbologies in tracking mails for US Postal Service.
