Development of a Flame Spread Screening Tool For Fiber Reinforced Polymers
ÖffentlichFiber reinforced polymers (FRPs) are of growing interest in building construction due to their customizability. To be used in a building, FRPs must undergo full scale fire testing to be classified per the International Building Code which determines where materials may be used in a building. Full-scale testing is costly and may impose significant economic penalties for materials that do not attain the desired rating. This project developed an initial form of a flame spread screening tool that utilizes material properties measured in an economical bench-scale test (ASTME1354) to predict performance of new FRP systems in full-scale testing such as ASTM E84, NFPA 285, and NFPA 286. Material developers may use this tool as a critical step in screening materials prior to full-scale testing.
