Effect of molecular weight on the structure of porous PVA scaffolds for tissue engineering produced by electrospinning

The effects of molecular weight (MW) on the structure of porous PVA scaffolds produced by electrospinning have been studied. PVA scaffolds were produced from six molecular weights. The scaffolds were characterized by scanning electron microscopy. It has been shown that by controlling the MW and concentration, highly porous scaffolds with a range of fiber and pore characteristics may be produced. The electrospun PVA consisted of an interconnected web of sub-micron fibers, potentially ideal for tissue engineering and drug delivery applications.
