The effects of circadian rhythm and low-dose irradiation (100cGy) on murine bone marrow transplantation

The data in this MQP show that circadian rhythm and low-level irradiation of hosts affects the success of bone marrow engraftment. The optimal time of bone marrow transplant was determined through the study of circadian rhythm of the donor and host bone marrow. Sub-myeloablation of the host allowed for high levels of engraftment even when low cell doses or 5-FU treated marrow was injected. This in turn eased the data analysis because differences between groups were easier to see. The effects of circadian rhythm need to be looked into further as they offer a route to more effective bone marrow transplants.
