Design of a model parachute test apparatus

Public

The purpose of this project is to design, fabricate, and test an apparatus for measuring the forces on a model parachute during its opening phase. While model parachutes have been studied before, few researchers have used parachutes less than 3 feet constructed diameter. This project used 6 and 12 inch parachutes, as well as an accelerometer to measure acceleration, a load cell to measure force, and an encoder to measure velocity. Only the accelerometer was functioning correctly by the end of the project.
