Investigating Transcriptional Regulation of C. elegans Insulin-like Genes

open in viewerThe highly conserved insulin/insulin-like growth factor signaling (IIS) pathway plays a critical role in development, lifespan, and metabolism. In the nematode, Caenorhabditis elegans, there are 40 insulin-like genes. Here, I investigate the transcriptional regulation of one insulin-like gene, ins-27, by knocking down transcription factor expression via RNA interference. I identified sixty five transcription factors as potential regulators of ins-27. By investigating regulators of C. elegans insulin-like genes, we may learn more about the biological processes that modulate insulin expression. This may provide greater insight into the regulation of human insulin-like genes.
