Design of a model parachute test system

Public

This project developed a system capable of measuring the drag force and acceleration present during the opening and steady state phases of small-scale model parachutes in a horizontal water tunnel. Aerodynamics, fluid mechanic, material, and structural analyses and investigations of corresponding research were utilized in the development of the system. The system may be utilized in continuing the investigations on scaling relationships and opening characteristics between small-scale and full-scale parachute canopies.
