A Robotic Medical Device For Spinal Surgery

Public

This report presents a concentric tube robotic medical system that is used for spinal surgery operations. Currently, disk herniation and discectomy and interbody fusion operations rely on rudimentary hand tools and primitive methods, making the operations extremely tedious. The team hopes to improve the efficiency of these surgical operations by constructing a robotic system with 3-D printed and other off-the-shelf components. Most notably, the team will develop and implement an end effector made with innovative materials. Finally, the performance of the robot and the end effector will be tested and evaluated.
