The Role of CSN-5 in the Migration of Neurons in C. elegans

During the development of C. elegans, neurons migrate to specific locations in the worm through the actions of various proteins; one protein known to be involved in neuronal migration is MIG-10. As part of an ongoing effort to better understand other proteins involved in the process of neuronal migration, CSN-5, a protein involved in proteosome activity and found to associate with MIG-10, was knocked down using both feeding RNAi and through the creation of a transgenic C. elegans line that produced dsRNA. No effect was measured in the migration of the neurons; however, a conclusion was not reached on the effect of CSN-5 on neuronal migration, because no effect was seen in the MIG-10 controls. The lack of effect may be due to the promoter used.
