open in viewerThe current cost to transport materials into space is approximated at $10,000 dollars per kilogram. Mass of payloads for human oriented space mission can be greatly decreased through obtaining resources in space. Water, being abundant on carbonaceous chondrite (C-type) asteroids, could provide radiation shielding, life support, and potential fuel. Resources could save NASA up to $10 billion annually for future manned missions, and be the starting point for a space highway.
