Recent legislative acts by the Parliament and the European Union have set the British Fire Service on a course of change. The new directions involve changing the balance from operational activities to fire prevention and risk evaluations. The economic relationship between government and private sector responsibilities is affected. This project investigated the history and nature of these changes as well as the response and attitude of the British Fire Service to these changes.
