Optimal Energy Absorption in Resonant Two-Layer Laminates

Previous work in electromagnetic heating for a lossless-lossy laminates includes a resonance that allows the heating of materials without risk of thermal runaway. The condition for resonance rest on a discrete set of volume fractions, but the performance of the system based on its overall thickness is the focus of this work. Various relative slab lengths were tested to find how efficient the conversion between applied power and internal is for each case with the case when the slab is thrice the length of the starting condition among those tested The efficiency of the system is shown to tend towards zero as the relative length of the slab approached infinity. Based on starting conditions, the ideal length of the system is determined to be approximately 120mm with the first layer being approximately 36.3mm and the second approximately 83.7mm. Further avenues of research are then discussed.
