Within WPI’s physics department, Ben Pollard and L. Dana are restructuring the intermediate physics laboratory course, with a plan to make it more open-ended and student led in order to maximize learning potential. Along with this change comes the need for experiments that cover broader topics to address industry relevant skills , which our IQP aims to address. We built a radar system listed on MIT’s OpenCourseWare, modifying and testing the system until it was fit for use within WPI in order to introduce RF circuitry ideas into the new curriculum. With the radar completed, a technical guide was created to allow instructors to understand the system, summarizing what was learned during the IQP so that instructors are able to help students with any concerns. A lab handout was also created to lead students through the experiment, designed with specific objectives from Ben Pollard to best fit into his new course.
