In the post-colonial world, globalization has increasingly integrated the economies of the world. Immediately after the fall of imperialism in India in 1947, the country took a more conservative and self-reliant approach to its economic and political policies. However, with the eventual opening of the Indian markets in 1991, free market capitalism and efforts to engage in international trade have changed economic, political and cultural dimensions of Indian society.
