This MQP objective was to design, simulate, and build a radio-controlled airplane to compete in the Regular Class of the 2024 SAE Aero East Competition. Through fundraising and careful resource allocation, the project goal was successfully achieved, and the team participated at the competition in Lakeland, FL, March 2024. The team conducted research on key concepts including aerodynamics and flight, structural design, manufacturing techniques, material properties, and competition rules and resources. They executed a crowdfunding campaign, multi-stage CAD design reviews with third-party critiques, and CFD and structural analysis using ANSYS and SolidWorks simulations. The plane was then manufactured, involving material and design tests, precise craftsmanship, and multiple prototype tests.
