Nitrile and neoprene rubber nanocomposites

Public

The goal of this project was to determine whether the addition of organically modified montmorillonite clay improved mechanical properties and decreased permeation of a chemical warfare agent simulant in nitrile and neoprene rubber. The modification types were chosen using TEM and XRD testing. The chosen modified clay was mixed into the rubber in varying percentages. The clay did not seem to improve the mechanical or barrier properties for neoprene. The clay seemed to improve only the barrier properties for nitrile.
