Redesign and rehabilitation of the Worcester Street Bridge in Grafton, Massachusetts

Public

We chose to explore rehabilitating and redesigning the Worcester Street Bridge in Grafton, Massachusetts. Options for rehabilitation were obtained through background research, the Structural Inventory and Appraisal Reports, and visits to the bridge. Necessary information for redesigning in both structural steel and prestressed concrete was gathered using an analysis of the existing bridge along with governing codes and loads established by AASHTO and PCI. Utilizing our results, the suitable structural steel redesigns were selected and a life-cycle cost analysis was performed on each in order to choose the most economic option.
