This project involves the design and implementation of a grid-independent charging station for cell phones and laptop computers that can be used for promoting the use of green energy on a college campus or other venues. Solar panels on the roof of the Atwater Kent building on the Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) campus were used to power the station which is slated for installation in the main lobby of the building. Users will be able to charge their cell phones or laptops from the station which monitors and displays the direction and flow of power between solar panels, battery storage, and USB/AC outlets. A fully functional prototype was implemented and tested, meeting both educational and usage requirements.

  • This report represents the work of one or more WPI undergraduate students submitted to the faculty as evidence of completion of a degree requirement. WPI routinely publishes these reports on its website without editorial or peer review.
