Experimental autoimmune cystitis in rats

Public

Interstitial Cystitis is a debilitating bladder disease of young and middle-aged women. Knowledge of its etiology and pathogenesis is limited. Our research used the EAC (Experimental Autoimmune Cystitis) rat model developed by Dr. Judith Luber-Narod to investigate the hypothesis that the disease is autoimmune in nature. Bladder tissue from control and EAC rats was compared at the light and electron microscopy levels, where morphological differences were found, along with evidence of increased autoimmune sensitivity in EAC rats.
