Dextran C6 for oil-in-water emulsions

Public

This project investigated the use of hydrophobically modified Dextran as a surfactant in oil-in-water emulsions. Studies were performed to investigate the solubility and partition coefficient of the drug, stability of the emulsion and the kinetics of drug release. The solubility was found to be 3.91g/L in water and 4.54/L in 0.039M phosphate buffer. The partition coefficient was found to be 10.6 and the emulsion proved to be stable for a period of one week but not after reconstitution. Kinetic testing provided the desired release profile.
