The Harvard College Observatory houses an astronomical glass photo image collection of over five hundred thousand plates containing images from the last one hundred and fifty years. In an effort to digitize this collection, our team had the task of designing and manufacturing a fixture that would allow these plates to be scanned into a database. The fixture went through process of conceptual and detailed design followed by a stress analysis to ensure the performance requirements were met. The parts for the fixture were then manufactured.
