Mass momement of inertia testing and verification

Public

This project was intended to develop a test fixture prototype and method based on the fundamental equation T=I* to measure mass moment of inertia for valve-train components manufactured by Timken so as to help predict operating characteristics of engines. A working test fixture consisting of a servo motor, a torque transducer and component fixturing was constructed. Through computer analysis of experimental data it is possible to experimentally determine the MMI of the component accurately and accomplish the project goal.
