Sybr Green I as a bacterial identification stain

Öffentlich

Sybr Green 1 was studied as a possible bacterial identification strain. Five bacterial strains were stained with a 1:500 dilution of the Sybr Green 1 dye and viewed using a Zeiss Epifluorescent microscope. Escherichia coli and Bacillus thuringiensis both fluoresced; the other three strains did not show uptake of the stain. The stain could possibly be used for taxonomic purposes, helping identify bacteria in the presence of soil or other particulate matter or while away from a sterile laboratory setting.
