Long-term insulin delivery using y-PGA

Public

Diabetes is a significant cause of morbidity and mortality. Poly y-glutamic acid is a promising novel slow-release drug delivery system that could improve the lives of diabetic patients. Using cultured cells, these studies examined the ability of an insulin/PGA conjugate to deliver insulin over time in culture. Protocols were also developed to determine the mechanism of insulin release from the polymer. Preliminary results suggest insulin activity persists over 72 hours following a single administration of the conjugate.
