Variable-mass Hamiltonians

Public

The objective of this project is to derive new constraints on the properties of a quantum system containing a particle with a spatially-dependent effective mass. The systems studied are the finite square well and the spherical quantum dot. The transcendental energy equations were obtained from a general Hamiltonian. Next, the Heisenberg uncertainty relation was explicitly calculated for the first time. A key result is that the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle is violated for all the Hamiltonians.
