A distributed network status monitoring system

Public

A network status monitor system is used to report outages of networks. These systems utilize ICMP and SNMP to determine trouble zones, and use rules to determine the reporting of damaged or unresponsive equipment and links. This project is such a system with the focus on WPI's main campus network. This project uses an Out-of-Band Management network for message passing and data correlation in a multipoint-testing scenario to report problems. This system reports trouble from multiple views without the tested network needing to be in a functional state.

  • This report represents the work of one or more WPI undergraduate students submitted to the faculty as evidence of completion of a degree requirement. WPI routinely publishes these reports on its website without editorial or peer review.
