The primary goal of this project was to synthesize cyclopenta(1)phenanthrene using a published procedure so that the compound could then be used for further research in energy transfer studies. In an effort to obtain a higher yielding product, the goal of the synthesis was redirected toward improving the published procedure with a more extended procedure. This proposed procedure would ultimately produce a higher overall yield, and purer product of the desired compound.
