Converting high resolution .stl files to tool paths for machining

Public

The objective of this MQP is to develop a process that will import .STL files, create tool paths for a 3D object, and ultimately machine the object. This process is applicable in design and manufacturing fields as well as in reverse engineering projects. The concept of machining directly from an .STL file created by a 3D non-contact optical scan is currently not being done. This project has achieved the goals of creating tool paths and NC code for a scan of a human face. CAM packages have been evaluated to carry out this process, and the face has been machined.
