Wind energy resources in Massachusetts -- a GIS assisted analysis
PublicWind power resources in Western Massachusetts are assessed to aid in the siting of wind turbines for that region. We use WindMap, a GIS (Geographic Information Systems)-based software package that solves the continuity equations for a particular region, to produce maps of interpolated wind speed. Then, using Idrisi, a GIS software package, the resulting maps are analyzed for societal and environmental factors to address the suitability of particular locations in Western Massachusetts for wind farms.
