This project was completed with the Worcester Department of Public Works and Parks, which manages the parks in Worcester. The Department was concerned with water quality in Elm Park Pond, especially turbidity, fecal coliforms, odors, and aesthetics. Water quality testing of the pond showed that turbidity and suspended solids were high, alkalinity was low, and the pond did not meet standards for Massachusetts Class C waters. Recommendations for improving water quality include algae treatment, continuous water in-flow during summer, and improvements to retaining walls to manage stormwater flows.
