The manipulation of genes in organisms has raised several ethical issues concerning the commercial exploitation of living systems. The profound value of the ability to explore and utilize life is great. However, this does not justify it, and the moral implications of the science need to be discussed and addressed. This Interdisciplinary Qualifying Project uses a utilitarian and deontological critique of the science to determine whether it should be carried out.
