This project studies the usefulness of fluorescent protein stains for identifying proteins in the layers of a painting cross-section using fluorescence microscopy. Fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC) and Sypro Ruby protein stain were tested for positive qualitative identification of proteins in standard samples. Both stains were found to be adequate at identifying proteins, but improvements in solvent delivery could improve these results.
